An Intimate Mediterranean Themed Wedding In Los Angeles: Sasha & Aamir

In a marriage, a relationship between the two individuals is based on a deep friendship. And if you are marrying your best friend then you are the luckiest person alive in this world. Aamir and Sasha met when they were 15 and continued being friends until they realized that there is more than friendship between them.

Proposal Story

We get excited when we hear about a surprise proposal, and Sasha and Aamir’s proposal was straight out of a dream. Aamir with the help of her sister and best friends arranged a beautiful house on the water. He told Sasha that they were going for a work dinner, where she was led into different rooms with an Ipad with multiple videos recorded by Aamir for her. Once she was done watching the videos, he was waiting outside for her, and of course, she said yes. All their friends and families walked in as soon as she said yes to celebrate the day. Isn’t it cute?

Wedding Details

The couple was having a destination wedding in Cabo, but due to the pandemic, they had to postpone it. They pushed the dates of the wedding a few times but eventually, they decided to go for an intimate wedding in their hometown Los Angeles. The couple was determined to have a wedding focused on just their close friends and families. They planned each event with inspiration and as they already postponed the events many times, they decided to have three ceremonies; Mehendi, Pithi/Haldi, and Sangeet; in a day. The decorators of Modern LA weddings helped them to have the wedding they wanted to have at the 11th hour. Sasha’s outfits came from her sister’s company Kynah, where she helped her through the whole process of buying pieces of jewelry and accessories matching with all her outfits.

Mehndi, Haldi & Sangeet Night

Sasha and Aamir had their wedding planned at the last minute with their friends and families, and without wasting any more days and times they had all three ceremonies in one day. For this day they planned everything around the Mediterranean and Boho theme. They selected these great large wooden chairs and added some fun lanterns, with a touch of traditional draping.

Sasha chose to wear a dark green raw silk short lehenga choli embellished with lotus motifs of pop pink shells and gold charms from Papa Don’t Preach.

She paired her outfit with a high ponytail and Posie Pink earrings by Ranjana Khan.

Her mehndi design by Neha Assar was just the way she dreamt of since she was a little girl. It was something she was very keen on and she literally teared up when she saw the design.

She then changed her outfit for Pithi/Haldi into a ready-saree; The Hazel Saree; which was easy to wear while her Mehndi was drying.

Her outfit was perfect for a ceremony like Haldi, it was easy to wrap around as it does not need any pleats or tucking in to make sure it stays. The highlight of the outfit was the pearl-decorated belt.

Then next she changed into a crimson red mirrored Olivia Lehenga from Seema Gujral for her Bollywood Sangeet night.

Sasha was shining in this lehenga featuring the geometric designs and tassels with an organza dupatta.

She went with big waves for her hairstyle and traditional heavy jewelry. All her hair and makeup were done beautifully by Drea. She helped Sasha in ideating and executing the looks perfectly the way she wanted.

Wedding Day

On her wedding day; Sasha chose a Seema Gujral lehenga named after her - The Sasha Lehenga.

The lehenga features delicate white floral embroidery embellished with pearls and sequins on a net base and a V-neck blouse with long sleeves.

For her makeup, Drea did a smokey eye to add a bit of drama and a high bun with the dupatta on it.

As a lover of classic pieces of jewelry, Sasha went with the US designer, Amyn. Aamir and Sasha love house music, so, for their first dance, they chose Mathew Koma’s cover song Spectrum.

Reception Party

The couple planned their reception party in one of their aunt’s backyards, with a sunset dinner and loads of tearful speeches from close ones and a dance party featuring Aamir’s solos.

The inspiration for the reception party was a classic black and white wedding theme with heavy florals and candles.

The bride chose another Seema Gujral lehenga - The Anisa Lehenga that has an all-over sequin embroidery paired with an off-shoulder blouse with tassels and an embroidered organza dupatta to go with it.

She chose a slick back look for her hairstyle and repeated her jewelry from her Nikkah.

Photographer & Videographer

The whole wedding was shot by Vinuthna Garidipuri (@vinuthnagdipuri) and Vellora Productions (@velloraproductions). In Sasha’s words for the photographer,” Vinu’s talent is unparalleled and the memories captured are what I’ll get to hold onto forever. It was an honor to get photographed by her! “ Vellora Productions made the whole video shoot fun for them and were cooperative while rescheduling. Both of them made Sasha and Aamir’s weekend intimate wedding a fun one.

Tips From The Bride

1. Try to pick particular items or events where you’ll really let your family make the decisions and do what they want. I realized this could be fun for everyone and I got to enjoy the pieces of the wedding ceremonies I hadn’t planned but instead let my family do!

2. Figure out the things you care about the most in the wedding events – and dedicate more percentage of your budget and time to those. As much as you’ll want to do everything and anything, it’s helpful to remember the things you cared more about.

3. Remember it’s about you and your husband and your love together. In the end, that’s what matters!  Someone said right, “The best times in our lives are unplanned and usually spontaneous”.

Sasha and Aamir decided on a destination wedding but ended up having the time of their lives in their hometown surrounded by their people.
