Mehar & Anant’s Bright Summer Wedding In Niagara On The Lake

Mehar and Anant’s love story is a simple cute story where the friendship blossoms into a love that will live forever. Mehar had heard about Anant through his brother a few times when she first started University back in 2013 and didn’t think much of it until a few weeks later when Anant’s brother introduced them. At that moment, Mehar remembers thinking ‘Wow this is my dream man’. Anant also told her later that the first day they met, he came back to where they were introduced to see if Mehar was still around to chat.

As cheesy and cute as that sounds, their love story did not start right then and there. They became fast friends and maintained the connection throughout the years but remained friends. After graduating, they both became closer and Anant finally asked Mehar on their first official date! Since then, they became inseparable. They continued enjoying their weekend Toronto dates and being absolute foodies together. It made Mehar believe in how important the timing of everything is. They have grown so much and managed to have fun doing it, and are thankful for every minute of it!

The Proposal

Mehar knew something was cooking when Anant said, “Hey, let’s take next Wednesday off and spend the day together.” It had always been an unspoken rule that Mehar would want a little nudge about when this big day was coming. Mehar got ample time to do her nails, pick the outfit and just get excited about the day! On the day of the proposal, Mehar was picked up and taken to the Prince of Wales Hotel (Niagara on the lake). It was a chilly November afternoon in 2020 and they were right by the lake, just the two of them. And that is when Anant got down on one knee, shaking a little, said the beautiful words and asked Mehar to marry him with her favorite flowers. Mehar remembers just feeling so surreal at the moment that she didn’t hear anything Anant said. Anant had already hired a photographer to capture the moment. They were both so ecstatic later and spent the next couple of hours just walking around talking about what the future holds.

The Inspiration Behind the Ring

Mehar wanted something classic that would be evergreen throughout the years. So she picked a round cut diamond on a six-prong ring which was inspired by her everyday fashion choices, which are neutral and minimalistic. The final ring was designed by Anant and according to Mehar, she was elated to see how lovely it turned out.

Wedding Shopping

Mehar shopped for her entire wedding outfits online as it was COVID times. She visited The New Delhi Company in Vaughan, Canada & Lotus Bloom in Oakville, Canada to enjoy a ‘bridal experience’. She bought her Sangeet & Wedding ceremony outfits from Kalki Fashions with the help of Vidhi S. who was her stylist and had an amazing experience. Sangeet lehenga was her first outfit, and once satisfied with that, Mehar went for her wedding outfit from the same designer.

Vision for the Wedding

The vision for the wedding was a bright summer getaway with family & friends. No transporting around and just staying together in one place. Niagara on the Lake was special to them because that’s where they got engaged. When Mehar started the wedding venue hunt, White Oaks Resort & Spa was more than she could have imagined.

They held all 5 events there and the guests were in love. Mehar says, “ it was a destination wedding close to home!” Each event was planned to be completely different from the others in terms of food, decor, etc. on purpose since they were in the same venue all 4 days.

Sangeet Ceremony

The Sangeet was Fiesta-themed, with bright vibrant colors and lots of dancing. They kick-started the wedding celebrations with a bang and had an Indian-Mexican fusion food menu.

For her sangeet, she went for a purple glitzy 90’s vibe, which reminded her of Kareena Kapoor in K3G and Alia Bhatt from Student of the Year. Kalki Fashion did the measurements virtually and then Mehar was provided with photograph updates of her outfit. She got her Sangeet outfit first to see the quality and sizing of their pieces in real life.

Haldi/Kaleera Ceremony

The next event was mehendi and haldi, which was an intimate affair with around 30 friends and family in attendance. They had both, indoor and outdoor spaces decorated with stunning decor from Xclusive Designs. Anant had his Haldi in the afternoon followed by a fun dance party to end the night.

The outfit was from Glitter Choli.

Wedding Day

When Mehar first envisioned her wedding she knew exactly what she wanted- an outdoor wedding, and she got lucky with a sunny day on their wedding day.

To complement the sunny day, they had umbrellas and kulfis for the guests to enjoy. Mehar says, “It ended up being a picture-perfect day with the help of our lovely wedding planners at SAWC Planners.”

Bridal Look

Mehar wore a beautiful bridal lehnega in traditional red with a pop of pastels.

She opted for Kaleere from RaAbta by Rahul which was inspired by Deepika Padukone & Katrina Kaif, the Choora was from the lovely RJS & Company, jutti’s from Needledust, and jewelry from Riana Jewelry

Groom’s Look

Anant had his vision for his looks and they were what he was most confident in and would normally wear. Mehar thought it was great that he stuck to what he loved as he had never worn traditional menswear. He bought some great suits and a tuxedo. According to Mehar, they completed each other’s outfits more than they ‘matched’.

Reception Night

The reception was the last day and according to Mehar probably the grandest decor-wise!

They opted for all-white wall-to-wall drapery with metallic accents & florals on the stage and a seated dinner so everyone could enjoy their meal at their tables.

The reception outfit was by Seema Gujral and was bought from Lotus Bloom.

The night ended with a fairytale sparkler exit!

The Wedding Dance

For her entrance, Mehar chose ‘Aaj Sajeya’ as the song has her name in it which is quite special. For their first dance, they chose ‘Beginning Middle & End’ a song which is from their favorite rom-com movie and is about being together now and forever.

Tips for the Future Brides

Tips for Future Brides from the Bride

1. Get a wedding planner! Having them execute every detail while you soak up each moment with your partner, family and friends is worth everything

2. Relax once you are done with all the planning. This is a special time and it goes by so fast, everything will work out and the little things that don’t you will not even notice.

3. Live out your dreams! Of course, don’t go crazy over budget but get the things that you want since this is all once in a lifetime.
