When did you get engaged?

What was your proposal story?

A few days prior to the proposal, one of my friends from medical school texted me and casually asked if Sagar and I wanted to hang out at one of our local wineries in Charlottesville. I didn’t think much about it and am always down to drink wine so we agreed to meet up with him on the weekend. We showed up to the winery and were looking for a place to sit and Sagar suggested that I check out a table that had been set up on the side. I went to check it out but I saw that it had a “Reserved” sign on it and a bunch of decorations so I didn’t spend too much time looking at it. When I turned around to tell him that it was reserved, he was down on one knee with an absolutely gorgeous ring in his hand and I was in AWE! I was so taken aback and made this crazy gasping noise that made a decent amount of the crowd at the winery turn around (whoops.) After I pulled it together and said yes the whole winery started clapping which was so cute! A few seconds later, both of our parents ran out of the indoor tasting room and congratulated us! When I finally turned around to look at the table, I realized that there were SO many pictures of us and a big poster that said “Will you marry me?” and for some reason that hadn’t registered with me at all!!! Overall, he did a great job organizing a lovely afternoon for us 🙂

What is the best or most frustrating part of your wedding planning process so far?

The uncertainty given the pandemic has made organizing our guest list pretty frustrating. Sagar and I have HUGE families and the fact that we can’t have all of our loved ones together on our wedding day is really disappointing but we know it’s most important to keep everyone safe.  But thankfully we have really great live-streaming options and are hoping to have a blowout reception in the future when things are safer.

What advice would you give to someone who is ready to propose?

Don’t hesitate to have a conversation about it with your partner! I know that some people may want elements of the proposal to be a surprise but you can definitely still talk about when you generally want to get engaged and things that are important to each of you to have in the proposal (parents present/photographer/etc.) Also proposers  – ask your partner what they want in terms of their ring!! They’re gonna have to wear it for the rest of their life so make sure it’s something they LOVE 🙂

Where there any resources that helped you during proposal planning or wedding planning?

I have loved using theknot.com  – our wedding website has been seamless to put together through their service and you can organize your registry, guest list, and invitations all through it as well. They also have a great list of local vendors which we used to find our photographer and videographer.
