Mehndi NYC Henna Design began in 2013 as a side-business of educator and then social worker M. Buhler-Rose in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York. She draws inspiration from South Asian textiles, jewelry, painting, handicrafts, ritual arts and motifs, especially those associated with yoga and bhakti traditions of Northern India, where she has lived extensively. She is especially drawn to the cultural significance of henna in connection with life transitions and psychosocial wellness.
