Inspired by His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj, a few devotees initiated weekly assemblies in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In 1984, His Holiness inaugurated the inaugural BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Whittier, California. Guided by his blessings, the congregation grew into a dedicated community, expanding to build the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Chino Hills, completed in 2012 as the fifth traditional Hindu Mandir in North America.
