Sushma and Kishan’s Surprise Marriage Proposal At A Waterfall

Love is in the air and today we're excited to share Sushma and Kishan's love story! Read on to see how they met and what advice they have for couples.

When did you get engaged?

We got engaged in October of 2019, after dating for over 5 years.

What was your proposal story?

He told me that we were going to a welcome party for a wedding on his family’s side, so it was easy to get me all dressed up. When we were on the way there, he stopped at one of my favorite places from my childhood – a waterfall near both of our hometowns. We had just celebrated our 5th anniversary a week ago so he told me he was gifting me with a photo shoot, which was very believable because anyone who knows me knows that I love pictures. We met up with the photographer and climbed down a dirt hill to the waterfall. The photographer told me to pose looking into the distance and I did. I was in full posing mode and not really thinking about anything else.

When I turned around, the love of my life was on one knee. I was standing at the edge of rock so I’m surprised I didn’t fall off because, at this moment, everything was a blur. I could not breathe, my heart was pounding, and I started sobbing. He told me how much he loved me and asked me to marry him. It was the easiest “YES” I’ve ever said. At this point, I still thought we were headed to that welcome party. So, we drove to a beautiful restaurant on the riverside and our best friends/family were waiting to surprise me. I had another sob session before we spent the night celebrating our love!

What is the best or most frustrating part of your wedding planning process so far?

The best part is planning an entire weekend dedicated to celebrating our love! I always joke and say we’re basically paying people to pay attention to just us for a weekend, but it’s kinda true! The worst part is not letting the family’s opinions or attempts to get involved put a damper on the wedding planning process. I’m a textbook Bridezilla so when it comes to our wedding, I am quite literally on my way or the highway lol. It’s not always easy to get that message across.

What advice would you give to someone who is ready to propose?

My advice to a guy that is proposing soon is to make the day about what she wanted for her proposal. If she’s a nature gal, do it on a hike or if she’s more into your proposal moment being captured, then make sure she’s dressed up and you have a photographer ready! Just tailor the proposal to your future fiancée and she will love it! And don’t stress your speech too much - if you’re ready to propose, then it won’t matter what you say because she’s going to say yes.

Were there any resources that helped you during proposal planning or wedding planning?

There was no one-stop-shop place that helped me plan thus far. We’re still in the planning process but I found our venues by searching keywords on Google like “vineyard wedding venues in North Georgia” and I found our videographer by searching hashtags on Instagram.
